Our Mission

The objective of  “Playing with Music” is to foster basic music competence, appreciation, and exploration, which artist Mark Sorvari believes should be accessible to all parents and children. Each class is led by Mark, who offers live accompaniment, recorded music, songs, dances, and engages children in a variety of musical activities to expose them to a rich, nurturing music environment. Children learn to sing in tune and to keep a beat in their lower and upper body. They learn to imitate, explore, improvise, and create music.

Instructor

Certified in Orff Schulwerk, trained in Music Together, and experienced in the Reggio Emilia Approach for Early Childhood, Mark Sorvari offers music that catches a child’s imagination and that inspires participation, play, and learning through active music making. Orff, Reggio, and Music Together correlate in that they connect the emotional and cognitive aspects of learning and put the child at the center. A self taught guitarist/singer-songwriter/audio engineer, Mark has been performing live music for 27+ years and has been actively offering music & movement experiences to families in the Twin Cities since 2015 and has collaborated with Can Can Wonderland, the Ordway, DEMO, Westside Farmers Market, ECFE, and Union Park District Council, Dodge Nature Preschool, Child Garden Montessori, Medley Village, St Paul Childhood Center, School of Northern Lights, Midwest Special Services, Ramsey County Libraries, and Washington County Libraries. Mark currently serves as secretary on the board of directors for the Minneapolis School of New Music.

“Elemental music is never just music. It’s bound up with movement, dance and speech, and so it is a form of music in which one must participate, in which one is involved not as a listener but as a co-performer.”
— Carl Orff
